History
Aristotle’s syllogisms dominated logic for two thousand years. In the 19th century George Boole and Gottlob Frege recast it in mathematical form, creating the formal systems later analyzed by Gödel.
Logic and computation
Formal logic underlies the definition of an algorithm and the turing machine, and digital circuits implement Boolean operations directly. It is also a core tool of epistemology.
